Acupuncture Relief Project Non Profit Organization
After considerable time immersed in the indigenous cultures of Nepal, Leith became aware of the country’s dire need for health care. The Acupuncture Relief Project is the culmination of his realization. It is a Non Profit Organization that provides free health care to the people of Nepal primarily using Chinese medicine, acupuncture, and herbs. Nepal remains one of the poorest countries in the world and has been plagued with political unrest and military conflict for the past decade. This project recruits practitioners worldwide and gives them an opportunity to gain valuable field experience while making a positive impact on the local community. Over the last seven years, Acupuncture Relief Project has provided over 10,000 treatments a year to patients living in rural villages outside of Kathmandu, Nepal. Both Leith and Dr. Hardy have both equally benefited from volunteering in a community of people who freely share their open hearts and gratitude. The organization’s efforts include treating patients living with chronic pain and infections, as well as citizens suffering from extreme poverty and social disfranchisement. Common conditions treated include musculoskeletal pain, digestive pain, hypertension, diabetes, stroke rehabilitation, uterine prolapse, HIV/AIDS, asthma, and recovery from tuberculosis treatment, typhoid fever, and surgery.
